The message that “the sea does not divide us; it unites us” was conveyed from Cyprus by the Greek Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Christos Stylianides, during his official visit on October 18-19, 2024.
Mr. Stylianides and the Greek delegation held a working meeting with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Alexis Vafeades, and the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Ms. Marina Hatzimanoli. The two delegations agreed to strengthen Greece-Cyprus cooperation in the Ports sector, particularly within the framework of the Trans-European Transport Network and maritime corridors.
During the visit, the Minister attended the opening of the “Sea 2024” Festival, organized in Limassol, and participated in a joint initiative by the Greek Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy and the Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Shipping aimed at educating children about the sea, shipping, and its professions. Promoting maritime skills among young people is a priority of the Ministry.
Additionally, as part of the intergovernmental cooperation between Greece and Cyprus, officials exchanged information on the digitalization of the ship registry and seamen’s registry, as well as on maritime tourism issues.
