The students of the renowned Maritime Training Center QMS-MTC had the opportunity to experience a unique educational journey under real operational readiness conditions through an official visit to the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.
As part of connecting theoretical maritime education with practical application, a group of students and representatives from the QMS-MTC team visited the “heart” of the Hellenic Coast Guard. The students and accompanying members of QMS-MTC were warmly welcomed by Lieutenant Junior Grade H.C.G. Mr. Dimitrios Samiotis, Operations Directorate Officer, who coordinated their presence within the Ministry’s controlled-access facilities.
At the premises, Navigation Safety Officer Commander H.C.G. Mr. Emmanouil Vogiatzakis delivered a detailed presentation on the equipment and procedures followed during emergency situations. This was followed by an extensive and constructive discussion with the Commander, Captain Charalampos Psychogyios, focusing on the strategic management of maritime accidents and critical incidents within the Greek Search and Rescue Region.
The visit continued with a guided tour of the facilities of the Hellenic Coast Guard Radio Communications Center and the Greek Mission Control Center COSPAS-SARSAT (GRMCC), where QMS-MTC students witnessed firsthand the state-of-the-art technological equipment that ensures the safety of human life at sea.
Representing QMS-MTC, Mr. Christos Tsilakis, Head of IT Services, stated:
“Today’s visit to the Operations Center provided our students with invaluable insight into how our country manages maritime safety. We sincerely thank the officers of the Hellenic Coast Guard for their warm hospitality and for sharing their knowledge and experience in such a meaningful way. For QMS-MTC, cultivating a strong safety culture begins by observing top professionals in action.”
This initiative further confirms QMS-MTC’s commitment to providing future maritime professionals with top-level training and practical exposure by directly connecting education with the institutional bodies of the maritime sector.
