Chios Marine Club organized an information and experience-sharing meeting on 26 November 2025 to discuss:
Present and Future of Artificial Intelligence in Shipping. The meeting took place at the purpose-built Angelicoussis
Group Auditorium, Athens, Greece, and was attended by over 80 members and friends of the club.
The President of Chios Marine Club, Capt. Antonis Pitsilos, opened the event and welcomed all participants, emphasizing:
΄΄This kind of event helps people of the shipping community to approach with realism and insight the prospects that Artificial
Intelligence opens up for tomorrow’s Shipping Industry, without forgetting that: Human factor will always be the center of
every decision and success΄΄.
1st Panel: ΄΄Technology, applications and the potential of AI on board seagoing vessels΄΄
The moderator of the first panel was Dr. Nikos Kakalis (Lloyd’s Register Global Bulk Carriers Segment Director, Chios Marine
Club Secretary Special) with panelists: Christos Giordamlis, (Managing Director, Prisma Electronics S.A), Capt. Konstantinos
D. Geomelos (Navigation Manager, Chandris Hellas Inc, Chios Marine Club MOB), Dr. Stamatis Tournis (Managing Partner,
Sigma Business Network) and Alkistis Kyriakopoulou (Chief Business Officer, DeepSea Technologies).
2nd Panel: ΄΄New technologies – challenges and opportunities for crew and crew training΄΄
Then the moderator of the 2nd Panel Marios Bougioukas (Logistics Director BCA College, Chief Officer, 2WayFerries, Chios
Marine Club MOB) took the floor followed by the panelists: Katerina Palla (Head of Marine Training, Rina), Simos Varias
(CEO Crossworld Marine Services, Chios Marine Club MOB), Dr. Ioannis Patiniotis (Human Capital Economist, Founder &
President at PYLI-NET Human Centric Technology), Capt. George Papanelopoulos (Head of Vetting, Training & Development
Dept., Cyprus Sea Lines Co. Ltd and Academic Director, Saint Thomas Polytechnic) and Philip Nielsen (Co-Founder, Oriani
Hellas, Co-Founder, Health4Crew).
A lengthy discussion followed, with questions from the delegates attending the event, underlining the great interest and
importance of the Artificial Intelligence in Shipping Industry in the days and years ahead.
